Friends of Silent Spring Institute

Silent Spring Institute’s strength comes not just from its unique partnership between activists and scientists, but also from the generosity and talents of its many supporters, including the Friends of Silent Spring Institute. The Friends was established in 2004 to build a growing circle of informed supporters dedicated to identifying the links between breast cancer and the environment while learning how to reduce risk in their own lives.

The Institute provides members of the Friends with communications throughout the year, including invitations to events and an electronic newsletter that covers issues related to environmental links to breast cancer. The Friends of Silent Spring Institute Bulletin offers tips for protecting your health, highlights of recent studies, information about industry actions, synopses of published reports, brief news articles, lists of useful websites, and ideas for making your voice heard with local and national legislative initiatives. In addition to learning about advances in research and ways in which concerned individuals can take action to create a healthier environment for their families, members of the Friends raise funds:

  • to provide resources for the Institute’s ongoing research;
  • to advocate for the expansion of the national research agenda to include a strong focus on breast cancer prevention; and
  • to educate the public about new research and actions individuals can take to reduce breast cancer risk.
