As part of the Household Exposure Study, Silent Spring Institute researchers are conducting a study designed to help determine whether levels of certain chemicals in the home and in people’s bodies can be reduced by using different household cleaning and personal care products.
In collaboration with colleagues at Brown University, the University of California Berkley, and Communities for a Better Environment, the researchers are seeking to learn more about patterns of exposure to chemical pollutants inside homes and to determine ways to reduce exposures. Their long-term goal will be to understand the sources of these pollutants and their effects on health.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and charitable donations are funding this study.
